Plesk – MySQL Upgrade

If you are weak of heart and haven’t gotten around to upgrading your Plesk installation, but need to run an upto date version of mySQL…. then read on.

I came across this article while hunting information about upgrading a Plesk server’s mySQL installation. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes (10 if you include me checking and double checking stuff) and it worked like a charm.

IMPORTANT NOTE:- Read this addition before you do this… after I did this, my server remained largely unchanged, for a long time. Then, I needed to delete a domain, and it would appear that the differences between the MySQL server version and the client version compiled into the Plesk applications caused major problems. Only certain operations were possible, and that did not include deleting or even turning off domains. So, my advice would be DON’T do this! If your Plesk installation is out of date, upgrade it. Don’t start doing inplace upgrades of the components.
